Global Water Dance

GLOBAL WATER DANCE

May 2, 2021 @ 6:30 am - 7:30 am PDT

Global Water Dance (May 2, 1:30pm-2:30pm)
Poche Beach, 2771 N El Camino Real, San Clemente, CA 92672

Our dance draws attention to the global plastic waste crisis and its effects upon our oceans, mammals, birds and sea life in an interdependent ecosystem. On Poche beach where the dance takes place in San Clemente, California, we see waste problems occurring at the surface of the ocean when waste washes up to shore daily, and local people work diligently to remove the plastics, only to see it washing up again to litter the shoreline. Mismanaged waste remains on land, triggering public health crises among vulnerable communities. As we think beyond the beach we recognize and call for the urgent need for action to reduce plastic waste and find sustainable possibilities to finally end plastic pollution and address mismanagement of plastic waste.

We are creating a film of our dance to be included in the Global Water Dances 2021 online festival, and we wish to use this film on an ongoing basis to help raise funds for a local environmental group who supports our goals. Global Water Dances is a movement that connects and supports a global community of choreographers and dancers to inspire action and international collaboration for water issues through the universal language of dance.

International Solidarity Concert for India Covid Relief

International Solidarity Concert for India Covid Relief

July 10, 2021 @ 7:00 am - 9:30 am PDT

As we navigate vaccines and come out of lockdown in North America, some countries such as India are experiencing the very worst of Covid19. Join our community in a global online solidarity concert and silent auction emceed by Bollywood star @geetsagarofficial on Saturday July 10 starting at 2pm PST. Our community, our Sangha, can help us embody a mindfulness practice. Thich Nhat Hanh speaks of true love being made of four elements: loving kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. In Sanskrit, these are, maitri, karuna, mudita, and upeksha. “If your love contains these elements, it will be healing and transforming….True love has the power to heal and transform any situation and bring deep meaning to our lives” (Thich Nhat Hanh). Who is your community, and how can you reach out with love? Join us to support and hear from frontline workers for India Covid relief. This is a moment that shows the power of small steps that can make a difference as several Gandhian organizations came together since April when the horrific second deadly wave of covid hit India. Please come, share your solidarity, enjoy beautiful music, dance, and art, and hear updates from the frontlines to see how donations are assisting on the front lines. It is a hard time for many of us, but even if you cannot donate, you can share love and compassion by attending. It means a lot.

Date and Time: Saturday July 10, 2021 2:00pm-4:30pm PST. Zoom id: 82460142653 Password: jaijagat

teach in for peace

Embodying Peace

April 23, 2022 @ 6:00 am - 2:00 pm PDT

The terrible war waged by the Russian government against Ukraine has focused the world’s attention on the horrors of war and the need for peace. Instead of turning our attention to more spending on militarization and weapons of destruction we need to work for peace. Peace does not just happen; it requires sustained effort to create cultures and practices of peace and nonviolence. One important component of this is education.

The purpose of this teach-in is to share practices for and approaches to education for peace and ahimsa. The teach in highlights offerings from educators around the world. Seónagh’s offering highlights a method of embodying peace by tapping into the body’s innate power to heal old hurts through developmental movement re-patterning.

Calming the Nervous System Group Class – April 2

April 2 @ 10:00 am - 11:15 am PDT

Class Time: 10:00am PST/1:00pm EST/7pm Paris

This class is informed anatomically to help calm the nervous system and enhance feelings of wellbeing. We play with anatomical movement phrases that are derived from BodyMind Dancing™ (Martha Eddy), experiential anatomy from BodyMind Centering™ (Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen), and I guide class with imagery in a way that’s influenced by my background of many years of meditation, yoga practice, and I offer dance technique and imagery from contemporary Western and African movement languages.

The class nurtures an open environment with good music where I hope you feel free to express yourself physically while taking care of your body’s needs. At the beginning of class we foster community by doing a check-in. Each person is invited to share what is happening physically or emotionally, and the class is guided by themes that come from the group.

The movement builds from what I have prepared and is choreographed to work for different levels of dancers, beginning with a warm-up, skill-building phrases, movement practice, and improvisation with imagery and music. We improvise with short movement phrases that both help us attune to inner sensations and develop creatively. Each session of this class is different, so feel free to sign up for more than one!

Radiant Resilience is a 7-Day land-based somatic retreat on Salt Spring Island, B.C., where you are invited to slow down, listen deeply, and restore vitality in your body, your work, and your relationships.

— Set an intention, and work together with a small cohort to build new skills in emotional agility, regulation, and connection.
— Under the guidance of Indigenous Elders, learn models of resilience rooted in land and community.
— Daily movement classes from ISMETA-certified Somatic Movement Educators help integrate your learnings and offer new tools to expand your practice or to be shared with your community and/or clientele.– Explore your own connection to “root systems” in guided experiences in the forested and oceanic landscapes of Salt Spring Island.

Through deep witnessing, embodiment practices, and intentional communication, we create a culture of belonging and mutual support; this fertile soil becomes the source material from which we can foster and cultivate our resilience, and is how we can bring a spirit of resilience back to our families and communities.
